About
Philosophy
You use a glass mirror to see your face: you use works of art to see your soul.”
- George Bernard Shaw
“Becoming a star my not be your destiny, but being the best that you can be is a
goal that you can set for yourselves.” - Bryan Lindsay
For centuries, it has been a well-known fact that physical and mental
healing can be achieved through interacting with the arts. Art for
Healing NYC foundation is just supporting a very ancient concept about
the healing power of the arts. A peaceful level of enjoyment and
nderstanding of life can be found through artistic participation. After
9/11, museums and galleries reported record attendance of visitors,
looking to art as a healing force and sanctuary. Art for Healing NYC
foundation believes it is even more important than ever to enjoy and
enrich our lives through the arts. Involvement with the arts clears
the mind, and heart, brings peace.
We are a unique volunteer foundation because we bridge the gap
between the difficult road of the artist, simultaneously connecting the
artist to share their talents with the varied ethnic and economic levels
of the community. “Parent and Me” is a special program we have encouraging
the interaction between a parent and child through the language of creative
expression, which also enhances the development of problem-solving skills.
Our workshops are designed to inspire creative, unique, self-expression and
communication. Working with the hands or body in dance and acting, ones
creative energy, one’s mind grows and a calm and peaceful feeling is reached.
Our long term projects involve many artists which gives them exposure as
well as involving our community.
Art heals. Being involved in the Arts gives one hope, touching the abstract
and divine subconscious within us. There is no right or wrong way to make
or enjoy art. Experience art from the heart and it will show. We support the
unique quality of everyone. Art brings out emotion, uplifting energy that
moves one to another level of perception of living to a calm place escaping
the harshness of reality. Tapping into pleasant or maybe not so pleasant
memories that need to be addressed, intimate personal experiences and
associations in one’s life journey through participation in art. We analyze
with the mind, but Art speaks to the heart and soul. When involved in the
arts as a participator or audience, it transmits an ethereal constructive
healing energy putting us in touch with one’s soul. Art regenerates a resource
for joy and pleasure, which is suppressed in so many people in these tense
volatile times. Pleasure from involvement with the arts release endorphins,
which promote ecstasy and help build the immune system for better health.
Inspiration from viewing a painting, listening to music or attending theatre
or dance, a positive energy resonates inside of us that opens the windows
of the soul to reach a level of inner peace.
So keep creating or just enjoying the arts in your life.
“Art postulates communion, and the artist has an imperative need to make others
share the joy which he experiences himself.” - Igor Stravinsky
“The artist is the lover of Nature, therefore he is her slave and her master.”
- Rabindranath Tagore
